New beginnings

The Northern Demons are once more in preparations for another season in the FFSA State League competition. 2009 promises to be a big year, with the Club hoping to build on its strong performance in 2008 and hopefully go one step further and achieve a long-awaited premiership and promotion to the Premier League.

There has been a lot of activity off the field within the Virtus Soccer Club, with the Committee toiling hard as ever to organise its six competing teams, along with its increasingly busy social calendar.

Amongst the many developments made is the new agreement reached between the Northern Demons and the GAZA Football Club in Adelaide. Under the agreement, the Northern Demons’ Adelaide-based player contingent will train at GAZA’s ground and have access to their facilities twice a week. In another major change, training nights have been shifted from the traditional Tuesday/Thursday fixture to Monday/Wednesday. Adrian Leet resumes his player/coach role with the assistance of Damien DePalma, who will also act as a supervisor and liaison for the Adelaide squad.

Anthony Brevi, Senior Coach, will be working closely with these players and the entire playing staff to ensure the players are in peak condition come kick-off in Round One. Pre-season is now in full swing in both Adelaide and Port Pirie.

It is expected that the vast majority of the playing squad from 2008 will once again continue the quest for success next season, with many new faces also joining the ranks. With the news the Northern Demons will be the only Port Pirie based football team participating in the 2009 State League competition, it is hoped the Reds will continue to strongly represent the northern areas and reinforce its status as one of the powerhouse clubs in the State.
